Social Media Marketing

When making the basis for what my social media campaign would look like, the biggest thing at play was keeping everything to a similar, recognisable theme.

Social Media icons

Before creating the designs for advertising, I thought it was important to create a profile picture, as it would be the main way to identify our brand on any site anywhere.

This started with making one around the main colour red. However, I believed that no matter what logo I make, the other colours should still be represented, as that message has stayed through every design of this brand. However, I also decided to try out all other colours to see which one works best and how they would look if this idea was to go through. This may be reused in the future, as each colour could represent a different social media.

When considering the typography, I didn’t want it to be too confusing. Personally, I prefer the two letters together side by side as it doesn’t take up much space and is perfectly readable. Lastly, I made some different pattern concepts for each colour to see which one takes up space and isn’t too distracting. Again, I personally like the last as the rest of them are fairly distracting.

Social Media background concepts

When it comes to every site and the posts that follow, I made two types of borders yet wanted to keep the idea of the backgrounds from the site itself the same. I chose this as I believe using the background as a basis is a great connecting factor for everything and the marketing itself. Plus, it keeps the theming of bubbles/circles from the logo itself which has been a part of most of the design. If expanded further, it would be a moving background which shifts hue itself as it moves. I decided however, that it would be too distracting for posts that either have information or videos on top of them.

When it came to the borders, I decided to do one with each colour as each post or the information they contain could reflect what the post or video itself is about. A triangle border was also created as to consider multiple options. However, I prefer the multi-coloured border around it as it doesn’t take up much space. But, it would be best to look at what the general layout of videos or information would look like before passing it off.

When putting some quick low fidelity ideas together, I also made the layout of multiple media posts. The main ones were TikTok, Facebook and Instagram, as I feel they cover every area of what social media offers. After analysis, the square border ends up being a more successful border, as the triangles end up blocking a lot of valuable space on them. In contrast, the other border could contain more important information.

Out of all the layouts, I believe the Facebook one is the best put together and has the best chance of success. However, with further depth, perhaps one of the others could present better composition and imagery. When it comes to TikTok, that site would benefit most from an animated background for a post with text and images.

To showcase an idea of what some videos could look like on social media, I decided to make a quick Mockup. This video doesn’t include any text as I wanted to see what the general visuals would look like when animated. I believe they look well executed, and provide a good starting point. The pictures included are personal pictures I’ve taken of Hull in my own time.

When considering social media marketing as a whole, I didn’t want to lock myself in with only social media accounts or advertisements, and wanted to develop banner ads as they are also important in that space. The goal with these is to make something graphically pleasing while also showcasing all information well. While the idea I came up with is quite nice, if I was to make a more complete version, I would make the text bigger and the Matthews Hub name larger, as I feel they are not as visual as first thought.
