VR Immersive Art

For one of our lab experiments, we were shown a series of videos and projects which utilized a 3D environment in different forms. From a flowing river you were taken down, to a bunker in a war torn world, the range of stuff which can be created left me intrigued.

We were then tasked with understanding the 3D camera used in Blender to create 360/VR videos on YouTube. This would be achieved by changing the camera settings to be 360, and then creating a moving environment around it, in order to understand how the technology works and give us ideas.

Upon beginning the file, I first followed the steps in order to create a 360 camera. Despite anything I make, this would give me a clear understanding of how to create a video. Upon finishing, I then started creating a series of surreal objects and pictures around the camera which would all move in different ways. None of these objects had any consistency with each other, to achieve a feeling of confusion, along with letting me experiment in multiple different fields at once.

These objects consisted of a planet with a ring around it, four pillars, 2 with a moving ring, 2 with a ring that inflated and lastly to images I drew in Procreate and ported into Blender which would switch places as the animation moved on. This would achieve the effect of stuff changing while you weren’t looking, while other objects would move forever, making someone wonder if anything happened during.

While I believe I stopped my experiment early, and could’ve went further, I am interested in the idea of an area you can look around and appreciate the attention the detail. The idea of one area you stay that features multiple different areas to look at is a lot more appealing than a moving ride, in my personal opinion.
