For one of our lab experiments, we were shown a series of videos and projects which utilized a 3D environment in different forms. From a flowing river you were taken down, to a bunker in a war torn world, the range of scenarios which can be created left me intrigued.
We were then tasked with understanding the 3D camera used in Blender to create 360/VR videos on YouTube. To achieve this, one has to turn the camera settings to be 360, and then create a moving environment around it; this will enable creators to appreciate how the technology can work, resulting in new ideas.

Firstly, I followed the steps in order to create a 360 camera. This allowed me to have a better understanding of how to create a video. I created a series of surreal objects around the camera that move around in different ways. None of these objects shared anything in common with each other, and this lead to an intended feeling of confusion. An added bonus was that I was allowed to experiment in multiple different fields all at once.

These objects were: a planet with a ring around it; four upright pillars, two with moving rings, and two with rings that inflated. Lastly, two images that were drawn in Procreate and imported into Blender, switching places as the animation went through its cycle. The effect of this was a continual transition of images that continued infinitum; changing without being noticed.

While I believe I stopped my experiment early, and could’ve gone further, I am interested in the idea of an area you can look around and appreciate the attention to detail. A stationary area in which the internal environment moves is a lot more appealing than a moving ride. There are a lot of possibilities still to explore.
I will use this idea of a stationary area, along with an appreciation of detail on it, towards my final project idea.
