Project: Graffiti Overview
Overview
Graffiti is, generally, very misunderstood by the general public, and is lost to the younger generations. Because of this, I believe the meanings and style of Graffiti can be showcased to teenagers and young adults through Illustrations and fun experiments, along with how it’s influence can be felt through media.
Why?
Graffiti is a very brutally honest but beautiful art form, representing a special kind of freedom and wonder. I feel that young people, who feel lost, need a push or want to express themselves, need to be shown graffiti in an illustrative sense to let them get out into the world and create. Along with this, I feel keeping the history and meanings of Graffiti preserved for later generations in various means is increasingly important in the modern age.
Objectives
- To inspire young audiences
- To preserve the style of Graffiti
- To educate people on what Graffiti means
Scope
By the end of this project, I plan on having a bunch of research on the subject of graffiti with various illustrations to showcase how it can be used. Along with this, I plan on showcasing an online canvas which will have been provided to a group of people to express how graffiti can unite a lot of people, but also be a simple fun activity. This will be either put into a presentation or a book.
Competitors
If created, a book talking about graffiti would have to face against many other books when put in store. The illustration work and analysis would also have to compete with other books in the genre so it stands out. This book could be placed in art based shops like magma (an art book based shop in Manchester) or more alternative style themed shops like Forbidden Planet.

Potential Impact
I hope that what I create is able to influence and inspire people to create what they want. I also hope that my own view of Graffiti is able to help others understand why Graffiti gets made and what it represents. This would hopefully then lead to an increase in Graffiti.
